PUNE, Nov 15: Eminent geographer and founder president of the National Association of Geographers of India (NAGI) C D Deshpande died here on Sunday. He was 87. He is survived by two daughters.Convenor of Nagi D Thakur said that Deshpande was the National fellow of Indian Council of Social Science Research from 1985 to 1988. He served as the director of public information in the Government of Maharashtra. He was also the principal of many government colleges in the state.
He founded post-graduate department of geography in Mumbai university and Karnataka University, Dharwar.
Deshpande was the editor of the annals of NAGI from 1982 to 1992 . As a geographer, his main contribution was in the field of regional planning and development.
