NOVEMBER 16: The Centre has adopted two prime heritage sites in Maharashtra for development as world tourist spots.The Prince of Wales Museum in Mumbai and Shaniwarwada in Pune will be developed by the National Culture Fund (NCF) set up by the Centre, said Union Minister for Culture Anant Kumar in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The NCF has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the museum's development, of which Rs 2 crore has already been disbursed while the beautification of Shaniwarwada will cost Rs 60 lakh. The NCF has been set up with the express purpose of building and developing cultural centres, theme parks, art/cultural galleries, sponsoring computerise museum network etc. The minister also disclosed that the Centre has allocated Rs 16 crore to the NCF this year.
He said that before the end of the year, coins in the memory of Sant Dnyaneshwar will be released. They will be in the denominations of Rs 100, Rs 50, 10, Rs 5 and Rs 2.
