PARADIP, NOV 16: Union Minister of Surface Transport Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced two projects amounting to Rs 30 crore for infrastructure development and rehabilitation of slum-dwellers in this port town devastated by the October 29 super-cyclone.Kumar told newspersons here the Ministry would adopt 169 villages of Kujang block for cyclone-related infrastructure development with fund contributed by all major ports and public sector undertakings. The scheme will have a three-pronged strategy to build approach roads, institutional buildings and tube wells for water supply. The buildings, one in each village, will act as emergency cyclone shelter for any such disaster in future, Kumar said.
An area of about 100 acres would be developed with landfilling, road, water supply and street lights for development of 8,000 small plots for slum dwellers of Paradip. The low income group people can build permanent houseso that they are not repeatedly affected by cyclones, Kumar said.
