Cops to take oath in Bengali

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CALCUTTA, NOV 16: While the controversy over renaming the city of Calcutta `Kolkata' and the state of West Bengal Paschimbanga has refused to die down as yet, the state government has quietly and successfully decided to make the use of Bengali more widespread in the administration and the police. For the first time in Calcutta police's more than 200-year-old history, 269 newly-recruited constables and 25 drivers will take their oath in Bengali after their passing-out ceremony.

``There are some bottlenecks though but we will overcome them,'' Nazrul Islam, Deputy Commissioner, Calcutta Police, has said.
