Strike threat by ONGC workers
Contract workers at the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Ahmedabad have threatened to go on strike if Diwali bonus was not paid to them by Wednesday. A Gujarat Petroleum Employees Union press release here said that the decision was taken at a general body meeting on Monday. The release stated that workers were not paid bonus despite an order in this regard by Gujarat High Court which was upheld by the Supreme Court.Education fair
British Education Fair '99 will be held during November 20-21 at AMA lawns, ATIRA Campus, from 12 noon to 7 pm. The fair has been organised by the Education Counselling Service (ECS) of the British Council. A bus service has been provided and will pick up the visitors from the British Library and drop them at the fair venue. This service will be provided from 11.30 am onwards at half-an-hour intervals. On November 18-19, the library will display University and College prospectus in UK.
Joins UNICEF
Dr Y N Mathur has joined the UNICEF of Gujarat at Gandhinagar as the new State representative. He would strive to improve the rights of children in Gujarat giving special attention to girls, stated by a press release.
Cyclone relief
Bochasanwasi Shree Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) has supplied four truckloads full of flour, grains, food packets, clothing, medicines, tents and stoves for the Orissa cyclone victims, said a press release.

Dr Vinod Khandhar will be awarded `K C Kasliwal Memorial Oration Award' for his cochlear implant, an electronic device which converts sound energy into electrical energy like normal cochlea (inner ear). A person who is deaf from birth and those who are suffering from sensorineural deafness due to any reason in later life can benefit with the help of this device.
Fund-raising
Leading citizens and famous television personalities will move about in different areas of the city to raise fund for the cyclone victims of Orissa on Wednesday. The rally, organised by the `Movement for Secular Democracy' will start from Narmad Meghani Library, opposite Natraj Railway crossing at 9 am.
