Cong workers stage rally for water tank

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Nov 16: Congress corporators and workers from Danilimda staged a rally and held a dharna at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation main office in Danapith area to press for their long-pending demand for an overhead water tank in the area.

Danilimda Congress corporator Badruddin Shaikh said that if the corporation officials did not attend to the long-pending demand for an overhead tank within three days, the Congress workers would launch an agitation.

Shaikh alleged the ruling BJP was not keen on solving the problems of the area and did not try for a solution despite several representations from the people.

He said about 50 per cent of the population was not getting any water. Such areas include Nagori Ni Chali, Musa Patel Ni Chali, Pir Mullah Ni Chali and various societies of Isanpur area.

The Corporation had taken possession of a reserved plot for the water tank, but due to negligence of the Corporation officials, the people who had earlier occupied this plot approached the court throwing a spanner into the project work, he alleged.

Shaikh said though there were about six other reserved plots in the area where the Corporation could construct a tank, officials were not showing any interest.

Shaikh alleged that while police did not give the Congress people a written permission for the rally, they were present in large numbers in Danilimda area as well as in front of the AMC office to create a terror among the residents of the ward.

He said after the rally the Congress workers and residents of Danilimda handed over a memorandum to the Mayor and Deputy Municipal Commissioner M K Das reiterating their demand for a water tank. He claimed that Mayor Maliniben Atit has assured to call a meeting of the officials to solve the problem.
