Harpreet Bajwa
S.A.S. NAGAR, Nov 16: In the first week of December, the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) will float two community housing schemes providing 944 dwelling units.

The schemes were approved at a recent meeting attended by PUDA Chief Administrator Karanbir Singh Sidhu, ACA Mohali, Depinder Singh, ACA Finance Namita Sekhon, ACA Policy R.K. Arora and S.A.S. Nagar Estate Officer G.S. Ghuman.

PUDA Additional Chief Administrator Depinder Singh said two schemes in Sector 66 one providing 480 Lower Income Group (LIG) houses and another providing 464 Middle Income Group (MIG) houses will be floated in the first week of December. Another scheme in Sector 70 will be floated in mid-December; it will provide 31 Higher Income Group semi-finished houses. The brochures will be available by the third week of November.

Singh said all the schemes will be fully financed; purchasers will pay instalments to the concerned financial institutions which will in turn pay PUDA. Modalities are being worked out between PUDA and LIC housing, Home Trust, Punjab National Bank, HDFC for full financing of individual dwelling units.

The LIG and MIG houses will be completely finished and, for the first time, the houses will be done up in marble and ceramic tiles, a break from the conventional marble chips for flooring and lime coat for the walls, said Singh.

The approximate cost of a LIG unit of 274 square feet covered area (one room, bathroom, kitchen and water closet and provision for another room) is Rs 1.85 lakh. The MIG having an average covered area of 700 square feet (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, water closet and scooter garage and a provision for an additional coverage of 377 square feet) is approximately Rs 6.25 lakh. Semi-finished HIG houses will cost approximately Rs 8.75 lakh. The prices are yet to be finalised, said sources.

The 214 LIG houses which are under construction in Sector 66 will be completed by February and thereafter allotted.
