CHANDIGARH, Nov 16: The National Book Week celebrations, from November 14 to 20, began here today at the Government College for Girls, Sector 11, and Government College, Sector 46, with a "Know Your Library" exhibition. An initiation programme for students is also underway to help them inculcate reading habits.The exhibition has both general and reference books on display. As part of the celebrations, many competitions like poster making, book mark making, handwriting and book reference hunting among others being a few are being organised in the colleges.
The Sector 46, exhibition was inaugurated by Joint Secretary-cum-Director Public Instruction (Colleges), K.A.P Sinha. Speaking at the function, Sinha asserted there is no alternative for reading and it is a good habit which lasts a lifetime.
Blood camp held
The Blood Bank Society of the PGI collected 241 units of blood at a camp organised at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the State Bank of India, Sector 7. The camp was inaugurated by Department of Gandhian Studies chairperson Prof Sudhu Puri. The SBI Deputy General Manager, Zonal Office, gave away the certificates to donors.
