Cops beat up MP MLA -- Oppn demands probe

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
BHOPAL, NOV 16: Opposition BJP members stalled the proceedings of the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, demanding a high-level inquiry into the beating up of a legislator allegedly in a police station early this month.

During the zero hour, Narendra Birthare and Bhupendra Singh (both of BJP) sought to raise the issue of beating up their party colleague Harendrajit Singh Baboo by the police at Panagar police station in Jabalpur district and demanded a house committee be constituted to probe the November five incident.

Kankar Munjare (Janata Party) and some of the BJP members trooped into the well of the House raising slogans. As some of them reached near the Speaker's podium, Deputy Speaker Ishwar Das Rohani adjourned the House for half an hour.

As the BJP members reached the well and continued to raise slogans even after the House re-assembled, the Leader of the Opposition Gauri Shankar Shejwar was seen sitting quietly on his seat. The uproar continued, forcing theDeputy Speaker to adjourn the house till Wednesday.

Soon after the Question Hour on Monday, the House had debated on the admissibility of an adjournment motion on the issue during which the BJP members had alleged that legislator Harendrajit Singh Baboo was beaten up inside a police station in the presence of senior police officers.
