"There are at least three million companies - with a turnover below Rs 5 crore - which want to have a basic ERP system," said Jaiwant R Priokalar, managing director of the Progen ERP Systems, which launched the software. Linux is estimated to have 10 million users with around 50,000 from India, he added. The product is priced at Rs 1.99 lakh for a five-seat licence.

Other launches at the event, jointly organised by Miller Freeman and the Indian Express group, included a human resource management solution called Calibre by Systime Computers.

The company is also business partner for JD Edwards in India. Delhi-based Parsec Technologies (India) showcased an internet-ready call centre. IbharSoftware, a Chennai-based product company, launched an indigenously developed CRM solution targeted at the export and domestic market. At the conference, Douglas Shinsato, Interactive Intelligent vice-president (Asia Pacific), said computer telephony was not limited to voice to over IP. "All the leading insurance companies worldwide are scrapping their insurance providers, and leveraging CTI (computer telephony interface) to provide first quality service," he said.
