Plea to implement UGC scales The University of Mumbai College Principals' Association, affiliated to the Akhil Maharashtra Federation of Principals' Association of Non-Government Colleges, has appealed to the state government to implement the University Grants Commission pay scales with immediate effect.The association, at its executive meeting held on November 12, has requested the government to take immediate steps to avoid the proposed strike by degree college teachers from December 8. The strike would seriously affect teaching, examination schedules and declaration of results, the association has said. The resolution has been forwarded to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. Fisheries students strike
Post-Graduate and Phd scholars of the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Versova, observed a one-day token strike today against the recent recruitment of six candidates from the non-fisheries stream in the posts of scientists. They have complained that thesecandidates were recruited in the place of students from the fisheries' stream. According to a press release, the students boycotted classes.They complained that in the last five years, no candidate from the fisheries stream had been recruited in any of the national fisheries institutes. Instead, veterinary and agricultural candidates had been appointed, they alleged. Book on children to be released
The Cadbury Bournvita Mumbai Mums' Guide will be released at Crossword on November 18 at 6 pm. An open forum for discussion with a panel of eminent persons dealing with children and education will mark the event. The panellists include Mr Kannade, the secretary schools' education, Ms Laxman, author of many children's books such as the Thama series (also the wife of R K Laxman), Dr R K Anand, pediatrician and author of books on children, Ms Shroff, principal of the infant section of Cathedral School. The book will be released by police commissioner R H Mendonca and introduced by GauriKhan.St Xavier's school reunion
