Steven Spielberg may film old Kubrick project

LOS ANGELES: Director Steven Spielberg may pick up an old, apocalyptic Stanley Kubrick project about robots with artificial intelligence, the Hollywood Reporter said Monday. Kubrick, who died on March 7, spent years developing A.I. before finally giving up in 1993 after deciding the visual technology of the early 1990s was not up to the task, the Reporter said.

There is no script yet for A.I. but Spielberg may have discussed the project in depth in the many hours they spent talking on the telephone, according to the trade journal. But before the Oscar-winning director can begin work on that project, he is committed to making the 20th Century Fox-DreamWorks' science fiction thriller Minority Report and Columbia Pictures' Japanese period piece Memoirs of a Geisha. Minority Report is to begin shooting early next year, while Geisha begins production next summer.

Charles, Camilla invite neighbours to millennium bash

London:Britain's Prince Charles and his long-time lover Camilla Parker Bowles plan to see in the new millennium by throwing a modest bring-a-bottle party for neighbours, the top-selling Sun tabloid reported.

It said the pair had rejected a flash bash in favour of a ``good old-fashioned get-together'' at the heir-to-the-throne's Highgrove estate in western England.

Guests would tuck into simple food cooked by Camilla, the Sun said. ``'Invites have already been sent out, with the majority going to people living near the Gloucestershire mansion. Guests have been asked to bring some drink,'' it said.

Prince changes name yet again, switches label too

LONDON: The Artist, famed for his name changes as much as his music, put in a rare London stage appearance to promote his new album and return to the record industry fold. Signed to a major record label for the first time in three years, he played to a 450-strong ``invitation only'' audience at London's Mermaid Theatre yesterday. He and his guitarwere both in electrifying form.

Prince, locked in a lengthy row with Warner Bros Records in cover ownership of his songs, changed his name to The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. He was then identified just as a squiggly symbol. Now he is The Artist. His wife Mayte just calls him ``Honey''.

The artist, whose Purple Rain was one of the most acclaimed albums of the 1980s, rowed with Warner over ownership of the master recordings of his prolific output. The diminutive singer from Minneapolis is unrepentant about the name changes, which provoked a torrent of mockery from pop critics.``It is interesting how you can recreate yourself,'' he told Reuters in a New York interview when the album was released worldwide this month. ``You have to trust god. God's answer was `change your name','' said The Artist.

Resplendent in purple coat, high heels and spangled facepaint, he had the audience up clapping their hands and stomping their feet for the hour-long set. The audience was meticulously frisked, with securityofficials warning them: ``If you record anything, you will be prosecuted.''

Robert De Niro drops out of Scorsese film

LOS ANGELES: Robert De Niro has dropped out of Martin Scorsese's next film, `Gangs of New York, citing personal reasons, the Hollywood Reporter said Monday. According to ``sources close to the actor'', De Niro did not want to leave the United States to make the movie, which is slated to begin production in Rome next April, the Reporter said.

Instead, De Niro, 56, was finalising a $ 15-million deal last weekend to star in The Score, for Mandalay Pictures, the trade journal said. He began shooting the comedy Meet the Parents last week in New York. Gangs.. starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is moving forward and Scorsese is looking for a replacement for De Niro.
