NDDB move to bail out Orissa

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Nov 17: The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has launched an immediate crisis programme to bail out the dairy farmers and milk producers in the cyclone-hit Orissa. The NDDB launched its programme based on reports of their team which visited the affected areas of the coastal state .

The Board has donated Rs five crore to the affected families. As the devastating cyclone washed away most of the dairy animals, the state is facing a risk due to lack of feed and rapidly spreading diseases. The organisation has already sent 75 tonnes of cattle feed to the farmers and has made arrangements for another 225 tonnes. Ten veterinary doctors have also been sent, who have treated about 10,500 cattle which were at risk and treated another 3,000 disease cases.

Meanwhile, the Swaminarayan Sansthan has also sent their volunteers and sadhus to work in the state. As relief material the organisation has sent flour, salt, nutritious biscuits, bleaching powder, assorted tablets, clothing, blankets, aluminum utensils, kerosene lamps and stoves and tarpaulin.

Members of the Fair Price Shopkeepers Associations have also offered to contribute more than 1,000 cotton sarees (dhotis) for the cyclone-hit people of Orissa. This is apart from the nearly-100 tonnes of rice, bundles of medicines, clothes and other relief material donated by other social fora of the district which would be sent through the Sadbhavna train, scheduled to leave on Friday, District Supply Officer D G Khachar said.
