70 persons donate blood at camp
Seventy people donated blood today at a camp organised by employees of Dhillon Group of Industries at the Dhillon complex in Manimajra. Manjit Kaur Dhillon was the first to donate. The camp was supervised by PGI doctors.

Awareness seminar of Quest
The Lions Club Rose of Chandigarh and Lions Club Nightingale jointly organised Awareness Seminar of Quest at Sector 46 Government Model Senior Secondary School here today. The district chairman of Quest of Lions Club International, Dr Surjeet Patheja, was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, president of Lions Club Rose Baljit Modi said their club was the to organise seminar on quest. About 1,500 students along with their parents and staff members of the school participated in the seminar. The school principal spoke on the occasion.

Valedictory function
Speaking at the valedictory function of the 71st PGCTE course at the Regional Institute of English here today, K.A.P. Sinha, UT Finance Department joint secretary and director, Public Instruction (Colleges) declared: "English makes a difference and will continue to make a difference, so we should strive for excellence as teachers of English and make an active contribution to the future development of children in their careers." He called for "a sincere effort to upgrade the teaching of English in rural schools".

Sinha released a Handbook for Teacher Education and a set of poetry cassettes, Reading Out and Aloud. The function concluded with presentation of prizes to the graduates.

Patriotic songs' contest

Choirs from city colleges will compete in a national competition in patriotic songs to be held on November 18, at the Sector 11 Government College. The contest, organised jointly by the college and the Bharat Vikas Parishad, is in memory of those who gave their lives in Operation Vijay at Kargil. Former chief justice Panjab and Haryana High Court J.V. Gupta will preside over the function and present prizes.
