Fake papers for gold import; three arrested
The Economic Offences Wing unearthed a case of forged documents being used to obtain licences for importing gold. A foreign trade development officer, Rukmani Devi, licensing assistant, Rajkumar, and one Sanjay Sethi have been arrested in this connection.

The police were acting on a tip-off from Assistant Director General (Foreign Trade) K.P Singh and two firms -- Shyam Exports and Shivam Enterprises. Sethi disclosed he had obtained 56 licences for import of gold worth approximately Rs 14 crore by submitting fake bank documents, thus causing a net loss of around Rs 1 crore towards custom duty.

He managed to get the licences between January and March this year with the help of Rukmani Devi and Rajkumar, sources said.

One held in murder case
With the arrest of one Deepak, the Alipur police claim to have worked out a murder case in which the body of a 24-year-old man was found on the upper G.T. Karnal Road on November 8. The deceased was later identified as Ravinder of Keshavpuram.

According to the police, Mukesh, one of the accused, was having an affair with a girl. The deceased reportedly objected to this. Annoyed at the interference, Mukesh allegedly teamed up with four other associates -- including Deepak -- and planned to the five stabbed him. Deepak surrendered at Tis Hazari courts yesterday. He was later arrested and sent to police remand. The four others are, however, absconding.

Guard robbed, four arrested
The Sarita Vihar police have arrested four persons for allegedly robbing a factory security guard of Rs 19,000 at Noida T-point bus stand yesterday.

Reportedly, one of the accused, Jaipal, was once a Delhi police constable before he was dismissed from service in 1987.

According to the police, Virender Sharma, a security guard at a factory in Okhla, was carrying Rs 19,000 -- his salary for the last few months. As he boarded the bus from Noida T-point, some persons allegedly forced him to get down and then robbed him.

The duo then fled in a Tata Sumo (HR-10C/1298) reportedly parked behind the bus. According to the police, Sharma immediately informed the PCR and the four -- Rajesh, Anil, Budh Prakash and Jaipal -- were apprehended.

Man, woman commit suicide
Two cases of suicide were reported in the city yesterday. A 21 year-old woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her Najafgarh residence here yesterday.

She was married for the last one and a half year and the couple had no children. Her husband, a TSR driver, was not at home, the police said. The cause of suicide is yet to be ascertained.

In the other case, a 27-year-old resident of Sarojini Nagar committed suicide by hanging himself. The cause for suicide is yet to be ascertained.

Man strangled
A 23-year-old youth was strangulated to death illegedly by his former employer, in Dwarka, south-west Delhi. The youth, Rajesh Dikshit, was working at a TV repair shop owned by one Jarnail Singh, alias JS.

The police said Dikshit's wife, Asha was earlier involved with JS who was tricked out of the relation by Dikshit. JS has been arrested.
