Sacred Heart-26 win tennis titles

CHANDIGARH, NOV 17: Sacred Heart School-26 players reigned supreme in the Chandigarh State Inter-School tennis tournament at Lake Club courts today. Sacred Heart-26 girls bagged titles in under-19 and under-17 group.

In under-19, Sacred Heart-26 beat Govt Model School-40, 2-1 and scored 2-1 win over GMSS-10 in under-17 section.

Results: Under-19: SH-26 bt GMSS-40, 2-1 (Neha Singh bt Varuna 6-0, 6-0; Malika Malhotra lost to Harsimran Kaur 6-2, 1-6, 2-6; Neha Singh and Malika bt Harsimran Kaur and Varuna 2-0 (conceded).

Under-17: SH-26 bt GMSS-10, 2-1 (Simer bt Prabhleen Chauhan 6-0, 6-0; Isha lost to Shaleen Chauhan 4-6, 6-3, 5-7; Simer and Isha bt Prabhleen and Shaleen Chauhan 6-0, 6-2).

Badminton meet today
The stage is set for the fifth Tara Chand Memorial cash prize invitation badminton tournament which will commence here from tomorrow at Community Centre, Sector 7, Panchkula.

According to a press release, competition will be held in senior (singles and doubles), boys (singles and doubles) in under-19 and under-16 group. Singles event will also be held in under-13 and under-10 boys category.

In girls division, singles event will be conducted in under-16 and under-10 group.

Doubles event in masters (above 35 yrs) category will also be held. A total sum of Rs one lakh is in fray.

In the men's section, shuttlers from Punjab will vie for top honours while in the women's group the competition is wide open.

Primary schools meet
Competition in under-8 years, in boys and girls section were held on the opening day of the Inter-Primary school tournament at Government Girls School in Sector 8, today.

More than five hundred students are taking part in the meet.

Heats in various section including 50-metre in boys and girls were held today. The finals in all events will be held on November 19.
