Rock band Aryans to perform in city

Amit Roy
CHANDIGARH, NOV 19: "Ours is an album where one can find meaningful and melodious numbers which are composed and sung not just to sell, but to excel in the rock music scene, and that's what has made our album top almost all the countdown charts," said D.J. Narain of the "Aryans" group, while talking to Newsline, here today.

The trio is here to perform at the Jail House Rock on the occasion of the opening of the Hot Breads, a French bakery.

The theme song of the group's debut album, Ankhon mein tera hi chehra, that was released a few months back, made it to almost all the countdown shows on television. The "Aryans" constitute of Jai Walia, D.J. Narain and Sadashivan, who are all professionally into myriad fields. Thirty two-year-old Narain, who is an officer in the Indian Civil Services, hails from Lucknow. He says, "For me, it has been a chequered journey from leading social protests and social movements in Lucknow to doing a Ph.D at IIT, Kanpur, and then moving into the rock scene. Life is hectic but I have no regrets because music is my passion, family my commitment and job my mission." Recalling his childhood days, he adds, "It was 12 years ago when I bought my first guitar out of the money I received for an academic scholarship."

Meanwhile, 31-year-old Jai Walia says, "I have been a script writer and title music composer for television serials and I love R.D. Burman. I derive my inspiration from him, though my favourites include Michael Bolton and Bruce Springsteen.

Sadashivan (29), who is the only bachelor in the group, belongs to Kerala. He loves Illayaraja and Jagjit Singh and says, "I am totally into music and I have a passion for creating and singing soul stirring music with symphonies being my favourites."

The group is now all set to launch their new album which will cater to the needs of those who love numbers which are romantic, patriotic and reflect the pub culture. Another unique feature of the group is that vocals, lyrics, and composition is all done by the group members themselves.
