Custodial death in Pune -- CID begins probe

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, NOV 21: Even as the death in custody of history-sheeter Salim Shaikh has gone on records of Pune police as a case of ``accidental death,'' the State CID sleuths have started a probe into the incident.

Salim Shaikh was buried in Wanowrie late Thursday night, police said. Shaikh's last rites were scheduled to be performed at a burial ground in Yerawada Thursday morning. However, his relatives and friends had refused to bury him alleging that the history-sheeter had died due to the alleged third degree treatment by police. Shaikh's body was sent back to Sassoon hospital after his relatives demanded that a fresh post-mortem be performed on him.
