Mendonca not fined, claim police
Mumbai police have denied that the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has fined police commissioner R H Mendonca Rs 5,000 for the inordinate delay in filing a reply to a notice issued by the court on September 29.

According to an official statement, police claimed the newspaper report stating that the commissioner had been fined was carried ``without ascertaining facts.'' It claimed that the amount is to be paid by the government towards ``expenses'' which the release does not specify. The money is not to be paid by the commissioner, it adds.
