Pensioners' Day celebrated

CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: The Punjab Government College Retired Teachers' Association celebrated Pensioners' Day today. The function was presided over by Minister for Finance and Planning, Punjab, Capt Kanwaljit Singh.

The advisor, Pensioners' Association, Gurnam Singh, placed some of the demands of the Association before the Minister, which included bringing pension of pre-January 1996 pensioners at 50 per cent of the minimum of the revised pay scale of the post held by the pensioner at the time of retirement after the said date, on the Central government pattern. Secondly, to raise the fixed medical allowance from Rs 250 per month to Rs 500.

Thirdly, to allow benefit of family pension formula, introduced from January, 1996, to pre-January 1996 retirees and to revive the period of seven years for drawing family pension at the enhanced rates as was applicable prior to January, 1996.

The Minister assured the retired college teachers of speedy and sympathetic consideration of the various issues raised by the Association members.
