Four of a family seriously hurt in fire

PUNE, Nov 23: Four members of a family, including two children, were injured when a fire broke out at their residence in Nakhate Nagar near Rahatani on Tuesday afternoon.

The injured -- Shravan Bhagvan Solankhi, his wife Chhaya, seven-year-old son Pavan and five-year-old daughter Pooja -- have been admitted to the Sassoon Hospital. The hospital authorities said all the members of Solankhi family have suffered high degree burns and are in a serious condition.

According to the Paud police, the fire was noticed when some neighbours spotted smoke billowing from Solankhi's residence around 3 pm. The neighbours put out the fire and shifted the Solankhis' to the hospital.

The cause of fire could not be ascertained till late in the night, Paud police said.

In another incident, a factory manufacturing various articles of plywood was gutted in a major blaze in the industrial estate on the road linking Chakan with Ambethan village late last night. Nobody was injured in the incident.

According to the officials from the Central Fire Brigade, the fire was noticed when workers of neighbouring companies spotted columns of smoke billowing from the Vardhaman Wood and Metals Pvt Ltd around 11.30 pm.

On a tip off, the Pimpri-Chinchwad fire brigade rushed three fire tenders to the spot while the Pune fire brigade sent a fire tender. A team of 25 firemen brought thee blaze under control after seven hour long operations. However, the fire could not be put out totally till late Tuesday evening.
