56 arrested
City police on Monday registered eight cases under the Prohibition Act and arrested 10 persons with 68 litres of country-made liquor and four bottles of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor. Police also registered four cases under the anti-gambling Act. Twelve persons were arrested and cash and other material used in gambling was seized. Police also detained 34 others as a precautionary measure.Traffic drive
Traffic police on Monday registered cases and collected on-the-spot fines from 404 drivers. Of the 404 vehicles, 300 were two-wheelers, 60 three- wheelers, 38 four-wheelers and six heavy vehicles. Besides, cases were registered against 589 offenders for different traffic-related offences. Another 15 drivers were fined for failing to possess Pollution Under Control certificate.
Chain snatched
Leelaben Kantilal Patel (66), a resident of Shreyas Society, Satellite, has in a complaint at Ellisbridge police station claimed that some unidentified persons snatched her chain worth Rs 10,000. She claimed the incident took place near Shanti Tower, near Manekbaugh Hall.
Suicide
Radhaben Rameshbhai Damanaskar, a resident of Murlidhar society-III, Isanpur, committed suicide on Monday by dousing herself with kerosene and setting herself ablaze. She died on the spot. Vata police have registered a case of accidental death and are further investigating. Meanwhile, primary investigations reveal Radhaben ended her life as she was unable to cope up with chest pain.
Break-in
Bhupendra Maganlal Patel, a resident of Walkeshwar Society, Bhudarpura, has lodged a complaint at Ellisbridge police station that some unidentified person walked away with gold, silver and diamond ornaments, a camera and wrist-watches, all amounting to Rs 1.21 lakhs from his residence between 1.30 pm on Monday and 9.30 am on Tuesday. Ellisbridge police have registered a case and are further investigating.
Man dies
Jitendra Babubhai Chauhan, a resident of 54/127 Gujarat Housing Board, Meghaninagar, was admitted to hospital on Monday after he accidentally consumed acid. Police said Jitendra breathed his last on Monday when he consumed acid mistaking it for his cough medicine. Meghaninagar police have registered a case of accidental death and are further investigating.
Cop suspended
Police sub-inspector R C Pathak of Sarkhej police station was suspended on Monday after a complaint that he had a partisan attitude, sources said. Pathak had been investigation a case of fighting between two groups. One of the parties alleged that Pathak was not giving them a proper hearing, following which they complained to District Superintendent of Police.
