Rajkot gets set for fair

RAJKOT, Nov 23: Preparations are on in full swing at the race-course ground here, for the `26th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Fair' from November 28 to December 3. It will be held under the aegis of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT), in association with the Gujarat Government and Odhavaji Velji Seth regional Lok Vigyan Kendra.

The fair is being organised for the first time in Gujarat. President of the Lok Vigyan Kendra Gijubhai Bharad says that, Rajkot was selected after their organisation successfully organised a state level science fair last year. The fair will have display 154 of the best scientific models, selected from different states. Also 29 items selected from Gujarat will be on display.

Principal, District Institute of Education and Training, V.P.Bhesadadai said that, the items that will be displayed here are prepared by students under the guidance of their teachers and are cleared at the zonal, district and state level fairs. Those exhibits selected from the state level fair will be on diplay here, he added.

The models are divided into six categories. These include 25 models of science and technology, 35 of transport and communication, 27 of sources of energy, 19 of industry and environment, 21 regarding health and food and 27 of new education tools.

Bharad said about 400 students and teachers from all over the country will participate. Scientist J.J.Rawal, Jaspal among others are also scheduled to visit `Homibhaba Nagar', the venue of the fair.

Organisers expect around 10,00,000 visitors during the six days. The fair will be open from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm for students only, and from 1.30 to 5 pm for others.

The Lok Vigyan Kendra has also organised various programmes like `Kala Gurjari' on November 29, of the folk art and dance of Saurashtra, quiz programme, one minute show and Rajkot darshan for the participants. Lectures on different subjects will also be organised here.
