HC notices to Mehsana civic body, Collector

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Nov 23: Justice M S Shah of Gujarat High Court has issued notices to Mehsana municipality, Collector and Deputy Collector in a petition filed by the shopkeepers of Mehsana city challenging the Municipality's decision to widen the road from the old Krushna Cinema Hall to Paanch Limdi via Bhamariya Nada Road after demolishing their shops. The court has also directed status quo to be maintained on the demolitions till further orders.

The petition, stated that the Municipality had issued notices to the shopkeepers saying their shops would have to be demolished as the existing road would have to be widened.

The petition, challenging the Municipality's notice, stated that the shopkeepers had got the permission from the Municipality itself to open shops. Therefore, it said, the Municipality's order was wrong and illegal. Advocate P K Soni appeared for the petitioners.

The court's notices are returnable on November 29, 1999.
