GU jubilee festivities

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Nov 23: The Gujarat University, which completed 50 years on Tuesday, will celebrate its golden jubilee by hosting a series of functions. As part of the celebrations, the university has designed its own website, which will be inaugurated by Education (higher and technical) Bharat Barot here on November 24, says a GU press-note. The website carries details regarding various courses run by the university. It will also have information about the heads of various departments, their names, addresses and phone numbers. There will be workshops, seminars and cultural shows during the celebrations.

The university was founded in 1949, when Gujarat was still part of the then Bombay state. Despite the fact that, eight more universities have come into existence after the GU was founded, the Gujarat University still remains the biggest. The university has 193 colleges and 12 recognised institutes. It has 32 post-graduate departments, and some two lakh students study here every year.
