Priest offers to mediate on SSP
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
JAMNAGAR, Nov 23: Jagatguru Shankaracharya of Shardapith at Dwarka Swami Swarupanand Saraswati has offered to mediate between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh governments in the Narmada issue. The Shankaracharya, who was here to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony of Shardapith, said this while talking to media persons on Monday. ``I had a preliminary talk with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh recently. These disputes can be easily resolved by mutual understanding and open hearted talks,'' he said. The Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) was a life-line issue for Gujarat, particularly for the people of Saurashtra and Kutch, he observed. ``I have been trying to bring both the Chief Ministers together to resolve the contentious issue of the height of the dam,'' he said. The Jagatguru was unhappy with the renovation and maintenance work done at the Jagat Mandir of Lord Dwarkadhish and complained that both Central and State Governments ignored Hindu religious heritage.
