Congress may have to rethink tie-up with NCP, says Deora

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NOVEMBER 23: President of the Mumbai Regional Congress Committee Murli Deora has warned that the Congress would be compelled to rethink its tie-up with the NCP if the latter persisted in its attack on Sonia Gandhi.

Referring to reported move on the part of state BJP to table a bill directed against Sonia Gandhi in the forthcoming winter session of state legislature, Deora in a statement, he said if NCP supported the bill, then Congress would have no option but to reconsider its pact with NCP.

The bill which reportedly seeks to debar persons of foreign origin from occupying highest offices in the country, was also outside the purview of state legislature, he added.

Deora said that the Congress had agreed to a tie-up with the NCP to respect the wishes of the people of Maharashtra who wanted a secular government to be installed in the state. Apart from this, the Congress was also keen on pulling the state out of the economic mess created by the SS-BJP government. However, this did not mean that the NCPcould take the Congress for granted, said Deora.
