LUDHIANA, NOV 23: Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has demanded proper representation for his party and Punjab in appointments to various posts of Governors and ambassadors.``We have asked for at least one ambassadorial post, one governorship and the post of the chairmanship of the Minorities Commission,'' he told mediapersons after a function held in Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), adding that he had made this demand last Saturday during his meeting with Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee in New Delhi.
On the issue of expansion of his Cabinet, he hinted that only seven vacancies created by resignation of dissident ministers and others would be filled in the Cabinet expansion to be held this month. He added that there was total understanding with its electoral partner, the BJP, in this regard.
In his reply to the growing criticism and controversy over the ``expose corruption'' durbars initiated by him, the Chief Minister said on Monday that Opposition parties were creating suchcontroversies in order to sabotage the entire exercise of exposing the corrupt. He told mediapersons that Opposition parties were trying to sabotage the drive by ``instigating people to name some Ministers, which was very easy. But no written complaint has been received against any minister during these durbars''.
Replying to another question, he stated that such durbars will continue to be held in the future, and other scandals that have been unearthed during these durbars will be exposed at a later date. He urged Opposition parties to avoid gimmicks like dharnas and play a positive role. While claiming that there was no financial crisis in the state, Badal said, the state was undergoing a recessionary phase, which is a global phenomenon.
Earlier, inaugurating the 12-day training programme on ``intensive growth of vegetables'', organised by PAU, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation, and the Horticulture Department, Badal criticised the Centre for not helping the agriculture sector.
