Rajasree, Kaustub fastest; Calicut top

S S Manoj
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 23: Sumy Cyriac left the Water Works swimming pool as the most satisfying swimmer in the All-India Inter-University Aquatic Championships. At the end of the six-day meet on Monday, she finished with eight gold medals - seven of them with records - and five silver.

Sumy failed to make any impact in only one (200m butterfly) of the 11 events she participated. The degree student of Alphonsa College, Pala won her fourth successive individual championship.

Defending champions Calicut retained their overall title without much ado. Most of the points for Calicut came from relay events, a couple of golds in men and a few more in women. Calicut totalled 152 points, while MG were a distant second with 68 points.

It was a memorable day for Kaustub Radkar of Poona and Rajasree Chakravorti of Calcutta. Both emerged the fastest varsity swimmers and the Calcutta girl, struggling to impress, did it in style to win the 50m freestyle in her career best time in the last event of themeet.
