Haryana skaters dominate

CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: Haryana skaters gave fine performance by winning girls under-19 and under-14 roller hockey titles in the just concluded 45th National School Games in Moga. The under-19 team, virtually an Indian squad, comprising Meenakshi Kohli, Amrita Singh, Priyanka Sharma, Meenu, Shreya Sawhney, Rayasa, Reetika Sharma and Reema Bhandari won the crown by outplaying Punjab by 19-0 in the final. In semi-final they had routed Jammu and Kashmir by 10-1.

The under-14 squad (Karishma Ahuja, Noreen, Geetika Anand, Rajni, Navita Anand, Anuradha, Pallavi, Joshita Grover, Tanvi Mitta, Neha Narwal) defeated Chandigarh by 6-1 in the final.

They beat Punjab 4-1 in semi-final.

Haryana also bagged bronze medal in the boys under-19 by defeating Chandigarh 4-2. Gautam Narang, Daksh Gadi, Mukul Juneja, Nishant Dahiya, Shalabh Bhatwal, Pankaj Jain, Siddharth Chand, Ashish and Varun comprised the Haryana boys under-19 team. According to coach Balwinder Singh Johl, a majority of the skaters who brought laurels train at Hansraj Public School, Panchkula.

Easy for GCG-11
Defending champions Government College for Girls, Sector 11, Chandigarh began their campaign in style by routing AS College for Women, Khanna by 2-0 in the Panjab University Inter-College tennis tournament at the PU Campus courts here today.

Simmi Rani and Tarminder Grover won their singles matches with easy. While Simmi blanked Rajni 6-0, 6-0, Tarminder Grover routed Navneet by an identical score 6-0, 6-0.

In another match MCM DAV College, Sector 36, Chandigarh got a walkover against PU Campus.

Panchkula skating
The fifth Panchkula Roller Skating Championship will be held from October 26 to 28 at Blue Bird School skating rink in Sector 16 Panchkula. More than 200 skaters are expected to take part in the district meet. Entry closes on November 25 at Blue Bird School.
