Agony for Sharif as co-accused turns approver

KAMAL SIDDIQI
ISLAMABAD, NOV 24: The trial of Nawaz Sharif and his close associates took a new turn on Wednesday when one of the five main accused in the case turned state witness and agreed to give evidence against the deposed Pakistan prime minister.

Former chairman of Pakistan's Civil Aviation Authority Aminullah Chaudhry agreed to give evidence against his fellow accused, including Nawaz Sharif, in the army case of treason and hijacking, according to news reports on Wednesday.

Chaudhry, who is also charged with treason and hijacking, now is the state's ``star witness'', according to the independent English-language newspaper, The News,

quoting court sources.

Chaudhry apparently has recorded a ``lengthy confession'', The News reported.
