Eight acquitted of murder charges

AHMEDABAD, Nov 24: The city sessions court acquitted eight persons accused of abduction and subsequent murder of a chemical businessman, Manoj Shastri.

A judgment in this regard was passed by Sessions Judge H B Antani. Advocates Chimanlal Kella and Anil Kella pleaded the case for the accused.

The accused had allegedly kidnapped Manoj from the ground of Dakshininarayan Society in Maninagar on July 1995. According to an FIR filed by the victim's mother, Indu Shastri, the kidnap was committed to recover a debt of Rs 23,000 from Manoj.Manoj was allegedly detained on the terrace of Satyam Complex in Maninagar where he was beaten up. Subsequently, he was reportedly taken to Narol circle where he was thrashed to death.

It was also alleged that body of Manoj was taken to Taneragam village in Kheda district. The body was said to have been dumped in a canal.
