Telecom SP booked in cheating case

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PANCHKULA, Nov 24: The Sector 5 police station has registered a cheating case against SP (Telecommunication) Haryana, on receipt of a complaint from the office of DGP, Haryana. The case has been registered after the senior audit officer observed certain irregularities pertaining to the purchases made by the SP, as pointed out in his audit report regarding irregular withdrawal of Rs 75.75 lakh from the treasury and loss of interest to the government.

After a careful scrutiny of the audit report and the records of Telecommunication Wing, it had been revealed that Rs 75,74,984 was withdrawn on March 31, 1999, and had been shown disbursed on the same date in the cash book, whereas no amount was paid to the supplier on this date, but disbursed as Rs 33,34,401 on January 9 and Rs 28,59,480 on October 21, 1999.

Also, it has been found that the SP had cheated the government by keeping the amount outside the government account, causing a loss of Rs 8,26,758, approximately at the rate of 20 per cent per annum, to the government. Further, it has been alleged that the SP deducted Rs 13,81,103 from the bill for late supply of the material, which could not be recovered from the supplier. Investigations are going on and no arrests have been made so far. A case has been registered under sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 477 A and 120 B of the IPC.
