Mehra Memorial awards to be given tomorrow Patiala: Dr T.N. Khoshoo, honorary distinguished fellow, TERI, New Delhi, Prof P. Kachroo, a former head of the Department of Botany, Kashmir University, Srinagar, and late Dr P.D. Dogra, INSA senior scientist, Dehradun, will be honoured with the Prof P.N. Mehra Memorial Award for the years 1995-1997 at a function to be held at the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, on November 26. Award committee convenor Dr S.S. Bir said Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof M.M. Puri would preside over the function whereas former V-C R.P. Bambah would be the chief guest. The awards have been instituted in memory of late Prof Mehra, the doyen of Indian botany and chairman of the Department of Botany, Panjab University, from 1944-1977.2 killed, 1 injured in road accident Kharar: Two persons were killed and another received injuries when the car in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck near Bharatgarh village, 20 km from here, on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Balbeer Rai and Harpal Singh, both inspectors in the Food and Supplies Department and residents of Roopnagar. Local lawyer Surinder Chaudhary was rushed to the PGI in Chandigarh in critical condition. The police have arrested the truck driver and impounded the vehicles.
