PUNE, Nov 24: The Pudumjee Pulp and Paper Mills Kamgar Sangh at Thergaon on Wednesday alleged that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) order to shut down Mill operations was ``issued unilaterally because of which over 1000 workers have been rendered jobless.''The workers union, while threatening an agitation in the event of the order not being revoked, has also urged the MPCB to provide technical know-how and measures to prevent pollution.
Speaking to newspersons, union general secretary Kashipatil Kalate and other office-bearers claimed that the mill had been taking adequate measures to treat effluents before its release.
There had not been any case of effluents causing any harm to either humans or animals, the union claimed.
The management of the mill on Wednesday asked around 200 contract labourers not to report to work, the union said. Power supply to the mill was cut Tuesday night by the MSEB, the union said.
