Shooters haul 24 medals
AUCKLAND: India bagged 10 golds, eight silvers and six bronzes in the third Commonwealth Shooting Championship concluded here today.

India's AP Subbiah and TC Palangappa won gold and silver medals in the small bore rifle 3 position today. Ace shooter Jaspal Rana won a gold medal in centre fire pistol event. In the same event Ved Prakash bagged a silver medal. In the women air rifle event, Anjali Vedpathak won a gold medal. The Indian team won three golds, one silver and one bronze today.

Vivek Singh won two gold medals in free pistol and standard pistol categories. Jaspal Rana stood sixth in the standard pistol event. TC Palangappa won a silver in the air rifle event held yeserday.

Zaheer in India A
MUMBAI:
Wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia was today named to lead the country's third-string India A in the three-match series at Abu Dhabi from Nov 30-Dec 2. Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Gyanendra Pandey was named as the vice-captain of the 15-member team.

Teams from Pakistan and Sri Lanka are to make up the three-nation cricket festival to celebrate the national day of the United Arab Emirates.

The team: Nayan Mongia (capt., Baroda), Gyanendra Pandey (UP, vice-capt.), RR Parida (Orissa), Rohan Gavaskar, Nikhil Haldipur (both Bengal), A Vijay (Karnataka), Pritam Gandhe (Vidarbha), Shiv Sunder Das (Orissa), Syed Abbas Ali (MP), Vinod Kambli (Mumbai), Connor Williams (Baroda), Sarandeep Singh (Punjab), Zaheer Khan (Baroda), Sanjay Bangar (Railways) and Sachin Nair (Mah).
The schedule: Nov 30: India A vs Sri Lanka A; Dec 1: Pakistan A vs Sri Lanka A; Dec 2: India A vs Pakistan A.

Bagan in IFA final
CALCUTTA:
A determined Mohun Bagan warded off a late resurgence to quell Badda Jagarani (Bangladesh) by a solitary first half goal and romp into the final of the 105th IFA Shield Football Tournament here today.

The hard-working Khemtang Paite struck the match winner in the 32nd minute of the contest to save the day for the glamour club in a rather lacklustre semi-final encounter at the Salt Lake Stadium. Bagan will now clash with new force Tollygunge Aggragami in Friday's final.

Special Olympics
NEW DELHI:
More than 1,000 mentally disadvantaged children from 20 Special city schools will be competing in the XI Special Olympic Games beginning tommorrow at the National Stadium. The three-day games will feature 45 events with 600 medals on offer. Special trophies would be awarded to six outstanding athletes.

Sports exhibition
MUMBAI:
A two-month Science of Sports Exhibition was inaugurared by Dr R Chidambaram, chairman of Atomic Energy Commission, at the Nehru Science Centre here.

IK Mukherjee, director general, National Council of Science Museums, said the exhibition was an attempt to bring out scientific and technological aspects of sporting activity.
