Mastan YMCA, TMG in jr boys semis

MUMBAI, nov 25: Mastan YMCA, TMG and holders Ghatkopar YMCA booked semi-final berths, along with Central YMCA who had qualified earlier, in the junior boys' event of the XII Bombay YMCA Open basketball tournament at the Ghatkopar YMCA last evening.

Ghatkopar YMCA A 66 (Sandeep Nair 14, Ashish Lad 12, Chetan Shetty 10) bt Chembur Trombay Education Society 49 (Vitur Patel 10, Raphael Correia 16, Ryan Gommes 8), TMG 42 (Ivan D'Souza 11, Salil Samil 11, Rohit D'Souza 10) bt Wellington YMCA 37 (Shaikh Rafique 12, Shaikh Hussain 11).
Mini boys: Azad Sports Club 23 (Meherzan Uazoa 6, Shahriyar Raki 6) bt Ghatkopar YMCA C 0.

Anil Shetty shines
Fatima Boys prevailed 2-1 over Mumbai Customs in the WIFA Division I football league at the Cooperage, today.

Anil Shetty netted both the goals for Fatima and A Pinherio reduced the margin.

In another game of the same competition, GMSC beat Sachivalaya Gymkhana 3-1. Allan Fernandes (2) and Jeffrey Fernandes scored for the winners and Prasad Subramaniam accounted for Sachivalaya Gymkhana.

Newton nets winner
A lone goal by Newton Leitao turned out to be the match-winner for Mumbai Port Trust against Goan Sports Association in the DHL Veterans Trophy football tournament at the Goan SA ground, Cross Maidan, today. Earlier in another tie of same competition, Reserve Bank of India held Mumbai Customs goalless.

Thane Umpires supreme
Thane Chapter defeated Mumbai Cricket Umpires by 90 runs in a festival cricket match at Central Maidan on Tuesday.

Thane Chapter: 205-7 in 50 overs (Ravi Churi 31 not out, Magan Rathod 32 not out) bt Mumbai Cricket Umpires 115 in 18.5 overs (Prasad Pagar 47; Milind Shivalkar 3-16). Best batsman: Prasad Pagar, Best bowler: Milind Shivalkar, Best fielder: KM Gupta, Man of the Match: Suresh Shastri.

Pandurangwadi triumph
The third-wicket association of 130 runs between Naresh Narvekar (43) and Sachin Deshmukh (93: 99b, 14x4) powered Pandurangwadi Cricket Club to clinch the Cosmopolitan Cricket Shield. In the final played at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, Pandurangwadi upstaged Kandivli Sports Club by six wickets.

Replying to Kandivli's score of 183-9, Pandurangwadi were off to a disastrous start losing two wickets without a run on the board. However, Narvekar and Deshmukh steadied and steered the side in admirable fashion.

Batsmen dominate
The first day of the third-round matches in the Shalini Bhalekar Omtex Trophy MCA under-22 selection trial cricket tournament, was totally dominated by the batsmen.

Tukaram Surve XI and K Ramchandran XI crossed the magic figure of 300 in their first innings against Appa Babrekar XI and Mohini Amladi XI, respectively, at the Dadkar Maidan, Matunga (E), today.
