Geeta Sharma, Anil dominate

CHANDIGARH, Nov 24: Geeta Sharma of Income Tax dominated the women's section in the Central Revenues Sub-Zonal sports meet at Sector 7 Sports Complex here today. She emerged winner in shot put, discus, javelin, long jump and 100 metres competitions.

Anil Kumar of Income Tax stood first in 800 m, 200 for m below 40, 400 m for below 40 and 4x100 metres relay. KPS Brar of Income Tax won discus and shot put titles.

SK Mitta of Income Tax won the men's singles, doubles, veteran doubles and veteran singles titles in the tennis competitions.

Sunil Behl of Central Excise won the veterans badminton men's singles and doubles titles. Garima Singh of Income Tax emerged winner in women's singles and doubles badminton finals.

Central Excise and Customs won the volleyball, kabaddi, footbalkl, cricket hockey team championships. Income Tax were winners in tug of war and basketball competitions.

Punjab Governor BKN Chhibber distributed the prizes while KL Verma, Central Board of Excise and Customs and Ex-officio president, Central Revenue Sports Board, North Zone inaugurated the meet.

Powerlifting meet
The Chandigarh Powerlifting Association will conduct the 15th Senior and VIII Junior (men) Chandigarh state powerlifting championship will be held at PU Campus on December 15 at 9 a.m.. The state team will be selected during the meet. The selected powerlifters will take aprt in the XXI National meet to be held at Durgapur from January 4 to 8 and fifth North Zone Powerlifting meet at Rajpura in Punjab from December 9 to 12.

HS Bansal, organising secretary of the Chandigarh Amateur Weightlifting Association announced that the 11th senior and first junior (men) and third women state meets would be held at Panjab University Weightlifting Coaching Centre on December 4 at 9 a.m.

The state team will be selected for the forthcoming nationals.

Prakash elected
Prakash Chand was unanimously elected president of Football Club-38, in the general body meeting of the association today.

Other members elected are: Satwant Singh (chairman), VK Chadda, Sube Singh (vice-presidents), SK Bhardwaj (secretary), Isham Singh (treasurer), Rakesh Kumr and Man Bahadur Thapa (joint secretaries), Sewa Singh (technically advisor), Pala Ram (assistant secretary).

Rajesh Kalra, Rajesh Chauhan, Dharmvir, Anita Sharma, Kulwant Kaur and Om Prakash are the members of the executive committee.

Skating meet
The fifth Panchkula Roller Skating meet will be held from November 26 to 28 at Blue Birds School skating rink in Panchkula, Sector 16.

Cricket tourney
The Shivani cash prize cricket tournament will be held at Saraswati Vidya Public School, Manimajra, from December 4. Entry close on November 30, with the principal, Saraswati Vidya Public School.

Rajat shines
Unbeaten knock of Rajat Bhatia (90) helped DAV School-8 beat St Stephen's School-45 by 45 runs to enter under-16 boy final in the Chandigarh State Inter-School cricket tournament yesterday.
Brief scores: DAV-8: 198 for 5 in 25 overs (Rajat Bhatia 90 n.o., Akashdeep 60, Prashant 15 n.o., Sunny Behl 2 for 25); St Stephen's-45: 153 (Sachin 33, Marvin Das 22, Vikramrajbir Singh 2 for 25, Prashant 2 for 20, Akashdeep 2 for 30).
