Transfer warrant against IAS officer

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, NOV 25: A prisoner on transfer (PT) warrant against suspended IAS officer H M Pandey, who is now lodged in Lucknow District jail in connection with another criminal case, has been ordered to be issued by Special Judge I S Sambandam on Wednesday.

The PT warrant was issued based on a petition filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in the Rs 1.03 crore disproportionate wealth case against Pandey. The DVAC submitted that the accused was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi, for allegedly committing offences under the Indian Penal Code and had been lodged in prison. He has not been appearing in the special court since November 4. Therefore, in the interest of justice, a PT warrant may be issued to secure his presence.

The judge later posted the case to December 2.

Meanwhile, in another case, the Jutice Sambandam dismissed as unsustainable a memo filed by the Deputy Commercial Tax Officer (DCTO) seeking to restrict former Health Secretary K Inbasagaranfrom perusing certain documents relating to the assessment orders of some firms owned by his wife.

The documents were originally submitted in Special Court-I by the Commercial Taxes Department following an order passed by the judge on a memo filed by Inbasagaran in the Rs 54.40 lakh disproportionate wealth case involving him. Subsequently, the DCTO moved the court stating that the documents are "privileged" ones under Section 57 of the Tamil Nadu General Sales Tax (TNGST) Act and hence the accused should not be allowed to peruse or mark them as exhibits.
