HC notice to AMC in blinding case

AHMEDABAD, NOV 28: A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice C K Thakkar and Justice D P Buch of Gujarat High Court issued a notice to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and others, in a petition seeking compensation for seven persons who lost their eye-sight after being operated upon for cataract at the Shardaben Hospital, Saraspur here, on November 3, 1998.

The petition, filed by Valjibhai Patel, secretary, Council for Social Justice, stated that after the operation was performed upon the seven persons Natiben A Parmar (60), Shantaben M Solanki (60), Lilaben R Thakore (60), Hiraben S Solanki (65), Bhikhabhai L Christian (80), Yakubbhai Chhotumiya (61) and Kalaben L Parikh (60) they realised that they had lost their eye-sight.

While a cataract patient is discharged on the same in these cases, the hospital authorities, continued the treatment for 12 days.
