Manjrekar steadies A-I after shaky take-off

MUMBAI, NOV 28: Sanjay Manjrekar stood steady as Air-India hit up 252 for six against Sun-Grace Mafatlal on the first day of the three day Times Shield A Division semi-final at Police Gymkhana today. In the other semi-final, Indian Oil after being shot out for 142, hit back to capture four Tatas wickets for 88 at Elf Vengsarkar Academy Ground, Oval.

Manjrekar (106: 16x4, 1x6) put on 96 for the third wicket with Tariq-ur-Rehman (51), and 133 for the fourth with Nandan Phadnis (61) after Air-India were eight for two at one stage. He was dismissed just ten minutes before stumps.

Medium pacer Omkar Salvi who did the early damage, finished with remarkable figures of 19-3-45-4.

Barfiwala champs
SCD Barfiwala beat Hansraj Morarjee by six wickets in the final of the Chandrakant Pandit Cricket Clinic under-16 tournament at the latter's homeground, today.

Brief scores: Hansraj Morarjee 104-7 in 30 overs (Vinay Singh 3-13) lost to Barfiwala 105-4 in 22.3 overs (Kapil Choudary 33, Sharad Shetty 31 n.o.; Nizam Ahmed 3-20). MoM: Aditya Kulkarni (Barfiwala).

Mariano, Brendon shine
A lone goal by Mariano Mascarenhas turned out to be the match-winner for GM Breweries SC against Jogeshwari SC in the 19th Bro Paulus Memorial football tournament at the St Francis D'Assisi ground, Borivli, today.

In the other game, St Dominic Savio, Andheri, beat Bosco Strikers 2-1. Brendon Lobo (2) netted for the winners and Savio Kambatta reduced the margin.

Central YMCAadvance
Central YMCA and Ghatkopar YMCA A advanced to the quarter-final of the mini boys event in the XII Bombay YMCA open basketball tournament, sponsored by Kanara Engg, at Ghatkopar YMCA today. While Central defeated Ghatkopar YMCA B 28-17, the Ghatkopar side trounced YZAD 73-10.
