The style file
Ritika Ramtri
``Nothing spoken, yet so much said they call it style.'' Twas aptly said by someone. Style transcends mere fashion and has more to do with attitude than with clothes. Its about how you feel at the end of the nineties and about how experimental you are. Whether its a designer creation or something you picked up from a dusty thrift shop, its how comfortable you are wearing it that says it all.A lot of people believe that where style is concerned either you have got it or you don't. I would like to think it can be acquired while Simi Garewal is the epitome of innate style, Rekha (the actress) bears testimony of the fact that a bit of hardwork and a great deal of thought can make you change your entire persona. Some style tips which may help you are provided here for your easy reference:- Think different Get out a rut. Try new clothes, a new hairstyle even a new attitude. Flirt with a new look. Remember, a little change will help you go a long way.Exercise Working out has a lot to do with fashion and style. A toned body looks good in almost anything.Be interested Fashion, art, culture, social events, books, news, views, world events should all interest you. Awareness contributes to style.Meet offbeat people. They can add dimensions to your personality and expose you to an absolutely unusual perspective sometimes.Colour your lifeBesides filling in happy colours in your life look at your complexion. Though black is sophisticated and safe, try out something like navy or grey. Be careful to see if it matches your skin tone though. Don't overdo it Avoid looking like a Christmas tree. Do remember the dictum ``less is more.''To expose or not? A mini skirt with a mile high slit will get you the attention alright, but not the kind you want.Indian clothes buzz Indian clothes are also more minimal, no fuss and simple. Heavy embroideries, yards and yards of fabric are passe. Indian clothes today have a Euro feel about them with simple, chic and straight silhouttes. At work Avoid perms, curls, highlights and other distracting hairstyles. Don't overdo makeup.Reinvent the saree Give it a fancy edge by restyling your blouse. Make it slightly saucy at the neck or deeper at the back.Accessorise aptly Don't go over the top with accessories. Use them to enhance your look.Voice power Learn to modulate your voice. It will help your communication. Remember that avant-gardism is closely linked to the subtle. Refined shapes and varied fabrics from a forgotten or unrecognised past coupled with your personal touch make up an identity - a signature. And that is your personal style quotient.Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
