Thane woman kills self

A woman allegedly committed suicide today by setting herself afire in Thane district, police said. According to police, Rukmani Deepak (26), who was married to one Prakash five years ago, was reportedly harassed by her husband and in-laws regularly for failing to meet their persistent demands for dowry. Prakash and his mother Kamlabai were arrested following Rukmani's death, police added.

Builder robbed at Ulhasnagar

A builder was robbed of Rs three lakh by four unidentified persons at Ulhasnagar in Thane district on Wednesday. According to police, builder Mukesh Jaychand was sitting in his father's office after withdrawing Rs 2.5 lakh from a local bank, when four persons barged into the office. The robbers then threatened Mukesh and other employees in the office before decamping with the sum of Rs 2.5 lakh and an additional Rs 50,000 which had been kept in the office, according to the police.
