Civil Judge (Senior division), A G Raval on Thursday issued an interim injunction ordering status quo on the name of Mahesh Shah's son and fixed the final judgment for December 10.

The injunction was issued following a petition by Shah in which he wanted the name of his son, Repal, to be restored on school records after his wife Naina got it changed.

As per the case record, Mahesh and Naina entered into wedlock about 15 years ago. They gave birth to a son, and as per Hindu customs, Mahesh's sister baptised the boy and his name was registered in the birth certificate as Repal Shah.

However, of late, the couple's relations became strained and as a result the two started staying separately. According to the Mahesh, his wife approached the principal of the school in which Repal was studying and asked the principal to change his name to Tejas, which was subsequently done.

An infuriated Mahesh approached the court seeking justice and restoration of the boy's name. In his petition, filed through advocate Narendra Tiwari, Mahesh contended that since his son's name had been registered in the birth certificate as Repal, the change in the name would create problems for him on the academic front especially when he was in Standard 10.

The civil judge issued an interim injunction directing the District Education Officer (DEO) and the school principal to ensure that the name be restored to Repal. The judge also fixed the final date of judgment for December 10.
