According to the police, 35-year-old Giraben Pradeep Patel, a resident of Ashtapad Society in Karelibaug was driving her scooty around 12.30 p.m. when the truck (GJ-17-T-4757) hit it from behind, throwing her off the vehicle. She was run over by the truck and died on the spot.

Angry residents then stoned the truck damaging it partially. Sensing trouble, the driver and other crew members of the vehicle took to their heels. Though the agitated residents tried to chase them, they could not catch them. The Karelibaug police said that a case of causing death due to negligence had been registered against the truck driver.

In another road mishap, 45-year-old Himmatlal was killed and another person, Shailesh Rai Dayabhai Thakkar, injured, when their scooter (GJ-6-7300) skidded near Kalali Railway Crossing around 8.30 p.m. last night. According to the Makarpura police, the deceased was running a pan kiosk near Novino Batteries in Makarpura.
