VADODARA, Dec 2: A two-day seminar on women and environment will begin at the M S University's Faculty of Social Work from Friday.The seminar will discuss issues on `Development, environment and women's issues and challenges,' and `Enhancing women's participation in natural resource management.' On the first day, Sejal Dand will deliver a lecture on enhancing women's participation in natural resource management. Ravi Jadhav of ISRO would deliver a lecture on use of modern technology for pollution study and environment monitoring, while Nikhil Desai of the Faculty of Science would speak on `Closing the gender gap in developmental strategies and environment.'
Speaking about the seminar, faculty dean Anil Navle said, ``Women were closely associated with environment, they are the first victim of its destruction, hence it is imperative that programmes and initiative to address the issue should be taken up.'' He added that the seminar was part of the UGC-DRS programme and was jointly organised by the University, Gujarat Pollution Control Board, Training and Orientation Centre and the MSU NSS.
Minister for Forest Kanjibhai Patel will inaugurate the seminar.
