Nagpur varsity staff plea for more posts unheeded
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, DEC 3: Come December and Nagpur University employees will once again launch an agitation demanding the allotment of 190 non-teaching posts by the State Government. They've been doing this for the last two years without any success. The Nagpur University Employees' Association has announced a chain fast from December 15 and an indefinite hunger strike from December 20. University employees have been demanding that the State Government sanction the posts which were recommended by the Sonawane Committee. The report of this committee was accepted by the State Government and creation of the posts was approved.
However, a Government order sanctioning the posts was never issued. The university too, on its part, has repeatedly written to the State Government in this regard in vain. In the absence of regular posts the university has to make do with workers on daily wage or fixed pay basis whom it has to pay from its general fund. This has adversely affected the financial health of the university which waspoor in any case.
