6 acquitted after 36 years in gold smuggling case

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 3: After a protracted legal battle for 36 years concerning a case on smuggling of 30 kg of gold, a city court has drawn curtains on it by acquitting six remaining accused from the original list of 52 accused, including some Pakistanis and Afghanis.The court for all these years waited in vain for the prosecution to produce the case property, the seized gold. But little did it know that the gold had been disposed of in 1991.
Those acquitted were Manohar Lal, Bachan Singh, Sucha Singh, Jasbir Singh, Balram Singh and Karnail Singh as the court felt they had their right to life and liberty which had been guaranteed by Article 21 of the Constitution.
