GUWAHATI, DEC 3: The election of Pradyut Bordoloi, Congress candidate from Assam's Margherita Assembly constituency has been declared `void' and his election set aside by the Guwahati High Court on Friday.

Justice D Biswas in his judgement, on the election petition filed by one Swapan Roy against the rejection of his nomination papers as an independent candidate by the returning officer of the constituency, declared the election void.

The declaration was made in terms of the provisions of Section 100(1)(c) of the Representation of People's Act, 1951, as the nomination of the petitioner Roy for the by-election to the Margherita constituency in 1998 was ``improperly rejected.''
