Russia suspends strikes on Grozny
While Russia's airstrikes on the Chechen capital Grozny remained suspended on Sunday to allow civilians to leave the battered city, the military accused rebels of using the lull to build fortifications and plant mines in the city.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on Sunday claimed to have succeeded in capturing a strategic naval camp off north-eastern coast in Sri Lanka even as reports said over 250 rebels were killed in a major military offensive since Saturday.




Israel says it can't foot bill for Golan pullback
Israel could not fund the cost of a pullout from the Golan Heights if it hands over the strategic plateau to Syria under a future peace treaty, Israel's finance minister Avraham Shohat said on Sunday.
